Bespoke air curtain is designed by JS for a London Novotel Hotel

An unusual application for an air curtain has been responded to by JS Air Curtains with a custom-designed independently supported Rotowind unit above the glass revolving entrance door to the Novotel London Paddington Hotel. Accor, which owns and operates Novotel hotels, needed to install air curtains to balance the heating requirement in the main foyer of this hotel, which is in an exposed position with strong winds around nearby tall buildings.

As Accor specifically required a horizontal air curtain but was concerned that the glass facade would not be strong enough to support the weight of a standard product, technical-services manager approved JS for advice. The recommendation was a bespoke solution based on a 1.5 m Rotowind air curtain for revolving doors specially modified as a free-standing unit support by ‘goalpost’ legs.

A revolving door can act as a low-speed fan, forcing cold air into a room with each rotation. Combining a Rotowind with a revolving door prevents cold air entering.

Rotowind’s curved air outlets can be tailored to any size of revolving door to provide a tight seal across an entrance.
