Pre-commissioning cleaning of pipework systems

BSRIA, commissioning, pipe, pipework, cleaning

New guidance on the pre-commissioning cleaning of pipework systems from BSRIA (BG 29/2012) reflects new British and European standards and clarifies pints that have been raised over the last year. It provides the latest guidelines and good-practice cleaning techniques for commercial hot- and cold-water systems in buildings.

In particular, the guidance aims to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the parties, improve the exchange of information between them and provide consistency between service offerings of pre-commissioning cleaning contractors.

Thorough pre-commission of pipework system continues to be important with the adoption of energy-efficient control strategies that may result in low flow rates, particularly in terminal units with very small orifices in control valves.
