The scope of the Green Deal

Larkfleet Group, Green Deal, cavity wall insulation, draught proofing, gas-fired condensing boiler

More than half of the 45 Green Deal measures have been fitted to this demonstration house by Larkfleet Group. The 3-bedroom house in Bourne, Lincolnshire, includes 27 Green Deal Measures. They include familiar measures such as cavity-wall insulation, draught proofing and a gas-fired condensing boiler. Less-common features include solar water heating, solar PV and heat recovery. More-involved measures include air- and ground-source heat pumps and micro wind generation.

Measures not installed include a biomass boiler, micro CHP, waste-water heat recovery and water-source heat pumps.

Primary heating is provided by an air-source heat pump, with the condensing boiler as an alternative. The ground-source heat pump is not connected, but has been installed to demonstrate the space needed for the system.

Managing director Karl Hick felt that there was some detachment between what Government was introducing and what the general public and the industry were expecting. ‘We decided that a good way to raise awareness and improve that perception was through demonstration, and it was decided to retrofit an existing Code 4 sustainability demonstration house for that purpose.’

Larkfleet Group started energy-efficiency retrofitting work for 500 houses for a number of registered social landlords in February and is increasing the offer to the private sector. The company is also the driving force for a wider area approach scheme in Peterborough for 4000 properties.
