Ability fan-coil units serve helicopter training centre

Energy-efficient air conditioning for the recently opened Lynx Wildcat helicopter training centre at RNAS Yeovilton is delivered by EC/DC fan-coil units from Ability Projects. This centre utilises a high degree of synthetic training technology based around full mission simulators and flight and cockpit training systems.

Almost 70 chassis-type 4-pipe fan-coil units supply conditioned air to briefing rooms and integrated electronic classrooms. They have cooling capacities from 1.5 to 3.7 kW and heating from 2.5 to 4.5 kW.

The fan motors are energy efficient and have infinitely variable speed. At a typical duty point the electrical consumption can be reduced by up to 75% from, for example, 210 W to 60 W compared with an AC motor.

All the units supplied were fitted with 4-port control valves, actuators, controllers and room sensor/setpoint/speed controllers. Some units have intake plenums, condensate pumps, fan-failure flag switches and alarm-signal relays.
