Major Projects Agreement brings benefits to Terminal 5

The Major Projects Agreement (MPA) has had a positive impact on the Terminal 5 project at Heathrow Airport, according to a survey by independent auditors Baker Mallett. Among the key findings of the report are the following. • 88% of respondents thought that the MPA had improved the project. • Integrated team working has been adopted successfully. • Performance and productivity has been improved • Sickness and absence figures compare very favourable with those on other major projects. • Industrial relations compare favourably with other major projects. Looking to the future, those interviewed felt there was scope to introduce further harmonisation of terms and conditions of employment under the MPA. Sir Michael Latham, chairman of the MPA Forum, said, ‘This study provides tangible evidence that the Major Projects Agreement is delivering positive benefits to the Terminal 5 project. Other clients who have been watching the progress of the MPA at Terminal 5 since its introduction in December 2003 can now have increase confidence that this agreement can work. I would encourage those responsible for planning large M&E projects in the future, such as those connected with the London Olympic Games, to consider adopting the MPA as early as possible. We have seen from the agreement at Terminal 5 so far that bringing all parties together early on can provide a good starting point for delivering joint success.’
