Charcoal grill is protected by S&S Northern system

S&S Northern, gas safety interlock, carbon monoxide, charcoal grill
Protection against any carbon-monoxide emissions from the charcoal grill in this restaurant is provided by a system from S&S Northern.

S&S Northern’s recently launched Merlin 1750 solid-fuel safety system has been installed in the Didsbury Solita to monitor for carbon-emissions from the charcoal grill in the restaurant. If levels of carbon monoxide become harmful, the system will alert chefs, the grill will be extinguished and ventilation levels increased.

This restaurant offers a similar menu to its sister restaurant in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, which is recommended in the ‘Good food guide’. Signature burger dishes such as the Manc-Hattan, Angus steaks and weekend brunches are served in the luxuriously styled restaurant.

Franco Sotgiu, owner of the Solita restaurant group, explains, ‘At present there is no official guidance from the Health & Safety executive with regard to charcoal cooking. However, working closely with S&S Northern and the manufacturer of our grills, Inka, we have full confidence that our system exceeds any future legislation.

‘We chose S&S Northern as they are the market leaders in gas interlock systems. When we heard they were trialling a CO system, they were our first choice. Inka had also recommended them to us.’
