Cylinder thermostat protects against legionella bacteria

A hot-water thermostat that provides protection against legionella by raising the temperature of the stored water to 61°C for an hour once a week has been developed by ESi. Avoiding hot water being stored at a legionella-safe temperature all the time is expected to significantly reduce energy consumption.

Neil Ewings, managing director, tells us that the company has plans to offer different frequencies of temperature boost that can be set by the installer. This feature would enable the CTDE Dual Thermostat to be used with commercial hot-water storage, rather than just in homes as at present.
