Condair controls humidity for printing works

Condair, relative humidity, RH, humidification, humidifier

Condair’s ML Solo high-pressure humidification system has been installed in the litho plate-making area of print company Polestar in Sheffield. Designed to suppress and disperse electrostatic charges when protective film is removed from the plates, this low-energy humidifier maintains 45% RH in the area. It was part of a project carried out by Arcade, based in Cambridgeshire.

Arcade’s work also included installing two chillers, inverter-controlled chilled-water pumps, pumping stations, tanks and over 3 km of stainless-steel pipework.

These humidifiers use a cold-water spray and require just 5% of the energy used by equivalent steam humidifiers.

10 spray heads are located in the plate-making area, giving the capacity to deliver up to 48 l/h of pure, demineralised water into the air. Effective moisture distribution is achieved by twin jets on each ML Solo unit by a low-energy low-noise fan.

The jets are fed with mineral-free water produced centrally by a Condair pump and reverse-osmosis treatment station. The pump is of stainless steel, as is the pipework. The high-grade flexible hoses will not corrode.
