Wago marks 25 years’ operating in the UK

Wago, connectors, electrical

Wago Ltd, which specialises in connectors for electrical installations, has marked 25 years since its formation in the UK. The company has been operating from its Rugby headquarters since 1990, when it employed just 11 members of staff. There are nearly a hundred people today, and steady expansion over the period has seen Wago become a major provider of advanced interconnection and automation products in the UK and Ireland.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wago Kontakttechnik GmbH, which employs more than 6500 people in over 40 countries and has a turnover in excess of £500 million.

Gordon Smith was managing director of the UK company when it was formed, and was succeeded by Tony Hoyle in June 2014.

Tony Hoyle, previously with ABB, said, ‘Gordon’s legacy is an impressive one. He has created a successful and vibrant company. The rest of the team and I are now committed to developing and implementing new plans for the future which will take the company to the next level.

‘As the innovators of spring pressure technology, our primary focus is to work with customers to develop fresh and imaginative solutions across a wide range of advanced automation and technology applications.’
