Plymouth shopping centre opts for Cablofil steel-wire cable tray

Cablofil
The installation of over 20 km of Cablofil steel-wire cable tray is considerably reducing installation time in a new shopping centre in Plymouth compared with traditional sheet-steel tray.
The installation-time savings of Cablofil steel-wire cable tray compared with traditional sheet-steel tray are being exploited in a 20 km installation in the new £200 million Drake Circus shopping centre in Plymouth. This is the first fully covered large retail development in the city. It is being built by Bovis Lend Lease and will provide a 60 800 m2 centre arranged over the two principal levels. The Cablofil tray provides containment and protection for all low-voltage electrical services. These include mains-power distribution wiring, fire, alarm and security systems and sensitive high-tech structured cabling for individual store-wide data-communications network. The very large installation for the main Marks & Spencer store is being carried out by the retail division of MITIE. Cablofil is also being installed by electrical contractor T. Clarke Plc in other large stores, as well as in general shops and smaller stores. This steel-wire cable tray eliminates the need for standard, factory-made bends, tee-pieces, angles and other pre-fabricated components normally required for installation based on conventional sheet-steel cable tray — which all contribute to reducing installation time and costs. Specially designed spring couplers enable successive lengths of tray to be joined in a few seconds. The couplers can also be removed rapidly to enable the tray to be repositioned or modified. The tray is easily cut and shaped with simple hand tools to conform to almost any surface profile with minimal waste. The new Drake Circus shopping centre is due to open for business in Autumn 2006.
