Electricity sub-metering to Building-Regulation requirements

A solution to the sub-metering of electricity required by the latest Building Regulations is provided by meter packs from Eaton Electric.
Energy metering in line with the latest Part L2 requirements of the Building Regulations is provided by a new family of meter packs from Eaton Electric. They are part of the Memshield 2 low-voltage distribution range. Two types are available. Both provide a pulsed output for remote energy monitoring. One is a multi-function meter with visual read-out of parameters such as energy consumed (KWh), reactive power, voltage, current and power factor. The other is approved and certified by Ofgem providing a visual read-out of energy only. These meter packs are housed in enclosures that can be mounted below Memshield 2 3-phase MCB distribution boards to provide energy metering of the loads supplied through the boards. The latest Building Regulations require that at least 90% of the estimated annual energy consumption in a building should be accounted for, particularly in new buildings with a gross floor area greater than 500 m2. Loads greater than 50 kW (about 69 A) should have separate sub-metering. This requirement can be satisfied by providing sub-circuit metering, either at the main switchboard or at sub-distribution boards.
