Quartz expands test facilities

As part of the continued development of its Quartz fan-coil business, TEV has added a replication room to its extensive suite of performance and sound-power test chambers. This room simulates site installation for fan coils, cassettes and wall-mounted units. Sound pressure can be measured to demonstrate the noise levels that can be expected with the actual installation. This 90 m3 room has a suspended ceiling of fibreboard tiles 1200 x 600 mm and 10 mm thick. A section of the ceiling can be easily removed to provide easy access for installing fan coils and ductwork; it can also be used for testing cassettes. The room is acoustically isolated from adjacent buildings and outdoors. A full range of calibrated test instruments is available. Other facilities include rooms for measuring sound power and automated climate chambers for verifying heating and cooling performance. The facilities underpin the current marketing programme ‘Trust Quartz’. Chris Chisman, engineering manager with TEC, comments, ‘We developed these facilities in response to market needs and as a direct result of some unsatisfactory testing at another test facility. The erroneous results caused us grief for a period of months with a major contractor and consultant before it was proven not to be anything to do with us. We therefore decided to protect our brand and ensure that testing and interpretation of results relating to our products was within our control.’
