Air-cooled chillers designed to maximise free cooling

Specifically designed to maximise free cooling — Aermec’s NSB range of air-cooled chillers.
Aermec’s NSB range of air-cooled water chillers are designed to deliver free cooling whenever possible to reduce energy consumption. They operate in three modes.
• Compressors only when the outdoor temperature is above the return-water temperature.
• Compressors plus free cooling when the outdoor temperature falls below return-water temperature.
• Free cooling only when the outdoor temperature falls to a temperature when compressors can be switched off. The condenser design allows full-fan air flow to maximise the contribution of free cooling whatever the conditions outdoors. The NSB range consists of 32 sizes with cooling capacities ranging from 280 to 1550 kW and achieves EERs from 2.9 to as high as 30. A high-efficiency double-screw compressor offers stepless capacity control down to 10%. A chilled-water circulating pump is available as an option, as is a glycol version with internal closed circuit. An extra-low-noise model can be supplied. These chillers are available in the UK from AiAX.

More refrigerant bans possible, says government

The government could tighten up the rules that restrict the use of global warming refrigerant gases including speeding up phase-out programmes and introducing new bans, according to a spokesman from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Baxi research suggests schools strongly support heat decarbonisation

A survey conducted by Baxi of 200 state school estates managers, consultant engineers and M&E contractors has found that while enthusiasm for Net Zero and support for low carbon heating systems in schools is thriving, persistent barriers remain.
