Creating a fire barrier in cavity walls

Tenmat has devised a method of providing a fire barrier within cavity walls as required by Approved Document B of the Building Regulations — without the undesirable consequences of bridging the cavity. The approach is based on an intumescent strip that is secured to one side of the cavity and which expands to fill it if a fire breaks out. As installed, the strips are only 4 to 6 mm thick.
