BRA expresses concern about R22 leakage and reclaim
Over 1900 t of virgin R22 refrigerant was sold in the UK, all of it used to service R22 systems — according to the latest market survey from the British Refrigeration Association. Concerned about its effects on ozone depletion and global warming, the BRA and its members are urging the industry to improve system tightness, as required in the F Gas Regulations, and minimise leakage. The survey also shows that he move away from HCFCs such as R22 is gathering pace. The quantity of virgin R22 sold in 2007 was nearly 30% less than that sold in 2004 as the industry moves away from HCFCs in good time. BRA is concerned that only just over 200 t of R22 was reclaimed in 2007, representing about 12% of current demand.
