Breezair evaporative cooling has been specified for two major new higher-education projects.

Breezair evaporative cooling has been specified for two new higher-educational projects as the most environmental and cost-effective means of cooling the buildings. The units are being supplied by the exclusive UK and Irish distributor CoSaf Environments.

The projects are the £9 million Marine & Built Environment Centre at Llandrillo College in Colwyn Bay and the new £100 million flagship campus for Stockport College.

WS Atkins specified Icon Breezair coolers for Llandrillo College Four coolers will provide cooling to the second-floor classrooms and IT rooms, The coolers are installed externally, with conditioned air ducted to each classroom. Motor speed is automatically adjusted to cope with different ducting systems and back pressures.

The Icon coolers are operated by a BMS, which is also linked to a rainwater harvesting system.

Operon Group specified 20 Breezair units for Stockport College, which will serve 10 000 students when completed. The units will provide summer and winter ventilation with full summer comfort cooling to all four floors. The Icon units are on the roof, with conditioned air ducted to each room and air volume automatically controlled to maintain space temperature and maximise free cooling. The are controlled by a BMS to maintain year-round ventilation.

Icon coolers have VDI 6022 air-hygiene certification and are said to use up to 90% less power than refrigerant-based systems.
