BG Controls installs BACnet control system in new school
BG Controls has provided full integration and electrical installation of the building-management system for the relocation of Leicester Grammar School to a £33 million purpose-built complex which provides educational facilities for 1077 pupils aged 3 to 18.
The new development incorporates a number of sustainable technologies to minimise environmental impact and limit energy consumption.
The building controllers were provided by a leading developer of BACnet automation systems, Delta Controls of Canada. The integration of BACnet technology to windows and natural-ventilation systems has enabled substantial ventilation to the school.
Windows and natural ventilation are connected to an energy-efficient underfloor heating system via BACnet. Room sensors send signals to the heating controller to ensure that heating is not on in areas where windows or vents are open.
The BMS also controls a gas-fired CHP unit that generates electricity and heat for space heating and domestic hot water.
A Delta ORCAweb server provides a web-based front end to connect the automated controllers to the local area network. Facilities staff at the school can connect to these web pages to view the current status of the BMS and make modifications when needed.
