BG Controls was responsible for the design, installation and commissioning of the sophisticated BMS for the new leisure centre at Catterick Garrison — the UK’s largest army base. Facilities in the £21 million centre, which is also open to the public, include a 25 m 6-lane competition pool, training pool, teaching pool and a 6-court sports hall for 5-a-side football, basketball, volleyball, netball and badminton. There are also cricket nets and trampolines.

Other facilities include a library and regional rehabilitation unit with specialist equipment to help military personnel recover from injuries or wound sustained in combat or while training.

The BMS in this 16 000 m2 building is based on Trend IQ3 controllers with customised control panels made in BG’s own workshop.

Networked via a Trend front end, the system controls the circulation of fresh air throughout the building. It also controls underfloor heating in the gym and conventional heating throughout the building. Advanced and easy-to-use graphics provide complete visibility over the site for monitoring and controlling every element of the system.
