The first-ever UK SkillPIPE champion in a competition organised by SummitSkills is John Clark, 25, trained by Leeds College of Building. The challenging 3-day practical-skills competition to promote skills and abilities in the H&V industry involved him competing against four other finalists in a series of practical tests based on real-life work situations. Marks were awarded for the ability of candidates to complete the installation to an international competition standard, with due consideration for health and safety and the environment.

John, who is employed by SIAS Building Services, commented on his success: ‘It’s fantastic to have been a part of SkillPIPE. The level of competition has been very high, so I’m delighted to have won. I’ve really enjoyed working with the other guys — it’s been great to have their support.’
