Integrated service modules play key role in London refurbishment project

Integrated service modules from SAS provided a solution for low floor-to-ceiling heights in this London refurbishment.

Active chilled beams and luminaires with micro-prism optics have been supplied by SAS International for a refurbishment and extension project at 10 Hills Place near Oxford Street in London. Architectural and design practice Amanda Levete Architects specified over 200 m of these ISMs for the 1300 m2 office refurbish­ment and extension.

The beams provide 470 W/m of cooling and 370 W/m of heating.

Ho-Yin Ng, a director with this architectural practice, explains, ‘Bespoke inte­grated chilled beams which combined the electrical and mechanical systems of the cooling, ventilation and lighting were designed and developed with SAS into a slimline aerodynamic profile. This matched the aesthetics of the building, whilst maximising headroom and areas of the soffit, leading to an increased sense of space.’

Tony Martin of M&E consultant Barn Partnership, adds, ‘Integrated services modules have provided the best solution for this project based on the floor-to-ceiling height and the decision to leave the soffit uncluttered.’
