BG Controls kills bills for Apollo Cinemas
Utility costs at the Apollo Torbay 9-screen multiplex cinema have been halved following a survey by energy engineers from BG Controls and the implementation of a number of enhanced building control strategies. Compared with other equivalent cinemas run by Apollo Cinemas, gas and electricity bills alone for the air-conditioned Torbay cinema were three times greater.
Measures implemented to reduce this excessive consumption included changes to boiler sequencing and the installation of inverters. The control algorithms for the various auditoria were modified to reflect the correct response of a large, high-occupancy space.
To ensure the new found efficiencies are maintained, the site is remotely monitored from BG’s in-house bureau, where technicians enable the profile of the building controls to correspond with the screen schedules as closely as possible. On a weekly basis, the HVAC controls are programmed specifically for each of the auditoria to start from the beginning of the first screen time to stop just short of the final showing.
