Xergi to build 2 MW power station fuelled by organic waste

Xergi is to build a large anaerobic-digestion plant in Scotland to produce 2 MW of electricity. The company is a leading supplier of this technology in Denmark, and the Scottish plant will be capable of processing 80 000 t of organic waste a year.

The agreement, which is worth about €8 million, has been entered into with energy company Scottish & Southern Energy.

Ian Marchant, chief executive of SSE, said, ‘Biogas has the potential to be one of the most important new-generation renewable and sustainable energy solutions available to us, capturing the energy contained in waste.
