Boilers and solar perform successful double act for school in Wales

Double act — MHS boilers and solar collectors combine to halve water-heating costs for a school in Wales.

A primary school in Flintshire has halved its annual water-heating costs following the installation of three MHS PB 120 kW boilers supported by an Auron DF direct-flow vacuum-tube solar collector. The installation also includes a Gemini 500 l cylinder. The collectors have been installed on a pitched roof at Sandycroft School in Deeside.

John Haime, mechanical-services design engineer with Flintshire County Council, explains, ‘The council has an energy policy commitment to reduce carbon emissions through the installation of renewable technology. MHS boilers and solar equipment were chosen on the basis of quality, best value and service back-up.’

The Auron solar collectors have an extremely flexible and stable mounting system to make installation and alignment towards the Sun simple. The tubes can be rotated through an angle of 60°, enabling the absorber plate to be aligned so that an optimal angle to solar radiation can be achieved.
