MHS Boilers meets the renewable-energy needs of housing development

MHS Boilers has played a key role in the use of renewable energy by 80 new affordable homes in south-east London by supplying 5 m2 of solar panels and a twin-coil hot-water cylinder for each home. Kidbrooke Village is one of the largest housing-led regeneration projects in Europe. It will replace the former Ferrier Estate and create 4800 homes over the next 15 to 20 years.

M&E consultant is Chapman Bathurst of London, and the systems were installed by C. Watkins Plumbing. Darren Brooks of Chapman Bathurst, explains, ‘As part of the planning approval for redeveloping the site, all the homes needed to reduce carbon emissions by incorporating renewable technology. The Solartron solar system ticked all the boxes, and MHS Boilers also provided outstanding technical assistance and sales support.’

The Solartron R 2.5 panels used are from Elco Heating Solutions. They are flat-panel collectors with a full-sheet copper absorber with highly selective coating. The Aquaprima direct and indirect unvented cylinder have capacities from 100 to 300 l; they are made of 316 grade stainless steel with a 25-year guarantee. These cylinders have an unvented control kit as standard.
