New college building wins acclaim for eco credentials

Achievign a BREEAM ‘Very good’ rating and winner of the ProCon Leicestershire award in the regeneration project of the year category, this £43 million redevelopment of South Leicestershire college was one of the last major projects delivered under the previous Government’s ‘Colleges of the future’ initiative. It replaces seven out-of-date buildings and was developed on an old derelict industrial estate. The Leicestershire office of MDA Consulting provided quantity-surveying services.
The site benefits from the efficient use of natural resources. There is a rainwater harvesting tank for flushing toilets, lighting with daylight linking and solar tubes to admit natural daylight. Natural ventilation is provided by Monodraught Windcatchers.
