Ability Projects helps deliver energy-efficient air conditioning at Oxford University

Energy-efficient fan-coil units from Ability Projects have been installed to provide air-conditioning for the new £38 million Department of Earth Sciences at Oxford University. These EC-DC Evolution units use 75% less electricity than AC units of similar capacity and also provide infinitely variable speed control of their fans.
This new research centre can accommodate around 300 students, researchers academics and administrative staff.
The project comprises a combination of 4-pipe Evo260 ceiling chassis units and Ecovert vertical fan-coil units with cooling capacities from 3.6 to 7.4 kW and heating from 2.3 to 4.8 kW.
Wall-mounted vertical cased units are installed in the IT rooms to supplement the downflow cooling provided by the ceiling units.
According to Ability’s agent Air Systems, these fan-coil units were specified by the consultant for their low running cost and because Ability could modify fan-inlet and discharge plena to suit the diffuser/plena requirements made necessary by the high cooling loads and air volumes of this project.
