Heating engineer’s new premises is a showcase for renewable energy
Heating engineers R. & M. Wheildon Ltd has installed a ground-source heat pump to provide space heating and a solar-thermal system for domestic hot water in its purpose-built new premises at Lower Bentham near Lancaster. The installations comprise a Vaillant Geotherm heat pump and two Vaillant solar panels.
The company has installed Vaillant boilers for many years and was among the first to embrace renewable technology when Vaillant launched it. Director Roger Wheildon explains, ‘When we launched our new premises we decided to make them a showroom as well as an office, particularly for renewable technologies. With an eye fixed firmly on the future, we wanted to demonstrate that the Vaillant Geotherm ground-source heat pump is an excellent product that we were eager to use ourselves.’
Two 100 mm-wide boreholes each 90 m deep were drilled to install four pipes to extract heat from the ground.
The installation also includes a buffer store and underfloor heating system.
