Biomass receives a boost in southern England
Some 70 000 t of wood-based fuel will be produced each year by the £15 million plant of Verdo Renewables at Andover. It was formally opened by Greg Barker, Minister of State for Energy & Climate Change, pictured (right) with managing director Richard Smith. The plant will produce 55 000 t of wood pellets a year and 15 000 t of wood briquettes for open-fires and multi-fuel stoves.
Verdo Renewables has a similar facility at Grangemouth in Scotland. Wood pellets made at both sites have received certification under ENplus, the European standard for wood pellets.
