Rinnai delivers fast changeover for DHW

The solution for replacing a hotel’s DHW plant — Rinnai’s HD50i continuous-flow water heaters.

When the time came to replace the 20-year-old DHW system at the de Vere Village Hotel in Warrington, Rinnai gas-fired continuous-flow water heaters and storage vessels were installed in a closet next to the existing equipment so that changeover was achieved without the need for temporary oil-fired plant.

This hotel has 116 bedrooms, with en-suite facilities including powerful showers. The need was for a hot-water system that would never run out. That was achieved using six Infinity HD50i water heaters and two 800 l storage vessels for support during peak times. Each 54 kW water heater can deliver 780 l/h at a 50 K temperature rise. Incoming water temperatures of 60°C are accepted, making these water heaters suitable for secondary-return systems.

A DIP switch enables temperature to be set accurately, and over-temperature protection switches the heater off if the water temperature exceeds its set point by 3 K.

The hotel’s maintenance manager Eddie Kane says, ‘The plant room is on the second floor and between two bedrooms. The Rinnai system is so quiet in operation (there is no sound insulation between the bedrooms and plant room) that we have never had a complaint. You only know the Rinnai unit has ignited if you look in it to see the flame.’

The system has capacity to spare, which reassures Eddie Kane: ‘I would rather have too many units than a few struggling to keep up. It also means the units I have will last longer.’
