Audit tool presents the case for replacing air-conditioning systems

Mitsubishi Electric has upgraded its Audit Tool for examining the benefits in terms of carbon reduction and energy efficiency of upgrading air-conditioning or heating equipment. The Audit Tool was first released in 2008. Sustainable-solutions manager Martin Fahey says that this updated version is especially relevant with the growing need to replace R22 systems.

The tool details the options available and provides accurate information of the payback period for new equipment, so building operators can clearly see when it is financially beneficial to replace an existing system.

The 2012 version has an ‘initial-audit’ feature to give a simplified and quick overview.

The more detailed full audit shows the cost per day of the old system and CO2 emissions; it also calculates the average repair price to maintain the system. This information is compared with the cost and emissions for a new system. Also calculated for a replacement system are the cost/CO2 savings of replacement and the cost of new equipment. Finally, the payback period is shown and a full professional pdf report produced.

The Audit Tool presents a strong and convincing case for discarding an old system in favour of a new one. The software will also highlight which new equipment qualifies for Enhanced Capital Allowances.
