MediaCityUK wins BIFM award

Major award for sustainability and environmental impact — MediaCityUK.

The team behind MediaCityUK, Peel Media Group and partners Cofely, have won the British Institute of Facilities Management’s award for sustainability and environmental impact. Competition included Google Ireland, Edinburgh Napier University and the International Monetary Fund.

A feature of this major development at Salford Quays is the tri-generation CHP plant, which has reduced carbon emissions by 29% compared to traditional energy services. The energy-management programme that has been created and tailored to meet the specialised requirements of the tenants and buildings has delivered energy savings of over 11% despite increased occupancy.

Monthly meetings make all stakeholders aware of energy-saving objectives and enable them to gain feedback, backed up by behavioural training.

The judges observed, ‘Sustainability and environmental management have been designed in from the very start of this project and right across the facilities’ spectrum of activity — from power and utilities generation and distribution through to day-to-day maintenance and operational management.'
