Sontay sensors help maintain hygiene in confectionery factory
Sontay’s SonNet wireless sensing technology is improving energy efficiency and reducing costs for the £6 million confectionery site of Wrights Food Group in Crewe. The company produces ready meals, desserts, cakes, traditional pasties and pies.
The need was for a temperature-monitoring system that offered complete flexibility and could provide a continuous record of temperatures to demonstrate due diligence to the Food Standards Agency.
The solution was a CentraLine building-management system based on the Niagara AX Framework. It incorporates 22 SonNet wireless sensors and was installed by controls specialist Eclipse Control Engineering.
The sensors were installed across the factory in a number of controlled food-production and storage environments. Most areas where SonNet sensors have been installed are kept at low temperatures, such as cold stores and freezers, and it is vital they maintain the correct temperature.
A detailed site survey before installation proved that the equipment would work correctly.
Wayne Murray, director at Eclipse, explains that the SonNet sensors can cope with the demanding conditions of the project, with the sensor housing able to withstand the intense cleaning regime needed to meet hygiene standards.
