Grundfos supports the Kelpies becoming a ‘mane’ event
This recent addition to the Scottish tourist scene, the Kelpies in Falkirk, opened 18 months ago, is now expected to attract a million visitors a year. The main attraction (pictured) is the two 30 m-high 300 t sculptures of horses’ heads. The name Kelpies is a derivation from mythical beasts which it was said possessed the strength and endurance of 10 horses.
Since they became a ‘mane’ event in Scotland, these structures have become a major tourist attraction, with a brand new visitor centre to support them.
Faced with over a million visitors a year being expected, plans for the original centre were reviewed when it became clear that a large facility would be required, with matching pumping requirements.
Grundfos Pumps worked with consultant Atkins and contractor Marmac Services, both of Glasgow, to develop a bespoke pumping solution that included the complete M&E solution of circulators, booster and pressurisation sets — plus ancillary items that would support the centre and its changing demands.
