Panasonic provides cool support for British sailing team

Wherever this support facility for the British sailing team travels in the world, comfortable conditions will be ensured by two Panasonic inverter-controlled air-conditioning systems.
British sailing prospects in at least the next three Olympic Games will be enhanced by a mobile support facility cooled by two inverter-controlled Panasonic air-conditioning systems — with redundancy to ensure comfortable working at all times in hostile climates. The inverter drives also minimise start-up loads on the standby generator of the facility, which is based on a 40 ft container, if ground power is not available. Built specially for Beijing 2008, the facility can carry out a wide range of boat repairs and provide ample supplies of fresh cold water for crews and the support team. The ISO shipping container has been modified and has doors at each end, with a bulkhead 5 ft from one end. This small section houses a 10 kVA generator and two CU-RE24GKE compressor units. The larger section includes workbenches, power tools, storage for parts and materials, water purification and cooling systems and two CS-RE24GKEW wall-mounted inverter units. The project was supported by air-conditioning distributor Climate Center, which provided the piping and ancillary items, and Cool Systems, which installed the kit. Dean Fradgley, trading director with Climate Center, says, ‘As the UK’s largest supplier of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment, we had no hesitation in supporting this project, in partnership with a prominent manufacturer and one of our long-standing customers.’
