British Museum enjoys the benefits of a wireless fire detection system

The benefits of a wire-free fire-detection system from EMS Group have been exploited by the British Museum in a refurbishment project.
A site-wide integrated wire-free fire-detection system has been supplied for the British Museum’s storage facility in north London by EMS Group as part of a recent refurbishment. This facility consists of two multi-storey buildings separated by a road and loading area and houses a study collection. The flexibility of the EMS 5000 FirePoint radio analogue fire system provided an ideal solution. Three network control panels and over 200 fire devices were installed by PowerPoint Fire Systems without disrupting the operation of the facility or its contents. A radio network also connects the fire systems in each building, eliminating the need to run a costly fire-rated cable between them. The fire sensors do not have external aerials and can typically be installed in less than 10 minutes. Their replaceable power packs typically have a life of five years. This project is another example of the flexibility of radio-based fire-detection systems in large area where wired systems would have been very expensive.
