Weatherite offers R22 advice

Weatherite Building Services offers a service to help owners of commercial property ensure that their buildings comply with the phase out of R22 and other HCFC refrigerants as part of the Ozone Depleting Substances Directive. At the end of 2009, virgin R22 refrigerant will no longer be available, and only recycled R22 will be available for servicing. It is estimated that over half of all cooling installations use R22.

Early signs of demand outstripping supply has seen prices for virgin R22 increase by around 40% during 2008, with further increases expected throughout 2009 for the remaining available stocks.

Weatherite offers a free initial site assessment and report, supported by recommendations for the most economical solution to achieve compliance with the directive.

Sales director Mike Turton explains, ‘For many customers, the age and condition of their existing equipment makes the replacement of R22 with non-ozone depleting alternatives a viable proposition.

‘However, we are finding that some equipment is not economical for simple refrigerant replacement, and in such situations we are able to propose direct replacement equipment or systems that will be significantly more efficient to operate, reducing a client’s energy costs substantially. In many cases, Government grants and tax allowances are available to partially fund new equipment purchased.’
