Chilled beams serve water company headquarters

Air conditioning in the new headquarters building of Three Valleys water at Hatfield is provided by Trox active chilled beams installed flush with the ceilings . This 8000 m2 structure is on the site of the legendary de Havilland aircraft factory and clad in clear-glazed curtain walling interspersed with smooth-faced precast concrete panels extending the full height of the building.

Not only do these active chilled beams achieve high levels of comfort with low air velocities and sound levels, but they also achieve low whole-life costs.

Maintenance requirements are limited to the coils being cleaned every three to four years. There are no moving parts, no filters and no drip trays and associated pipework.

To balance and control the primary airflow, iris dampers were fitted to these beams by Trox.

The building was designed by Kier Southern, with Kier Building Services responsible for all M&E design.
