Ability takes its air conditioning to Newcastle
Nearly 300 fan-coil units from Ability Projects will provide air conditioning in the first two blocks of the £35 million Baltic Place development at Gateshead Quays. This first phase of the project will provide over 12 000 m2 of high-grade office accommodation in two 11-storey blocks linked by a shared entrance foyer. Noted for its imaginative use of curved flanks, glass and fascias, the development offers striking views of the River Tyne and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
Air conditioning is provided by a mixture of Trojan and Titan horizontal concealed ceiling 2- and 4-pip FCUs with cooling capacities from 4.9 to 25.4 kW and heating from 5 to 13 kW. They are designed to meet NR35 noise criteria at 30 Pa restrictions.
Installed by the Washington branch of Inviron, these units are fitted with 2- and 4-port free-issue valves with free-issue compression fittings on both sides, wire-frame filers and 250 mm-diameter stepped discharge plena on the Trojan units and 300 mm on the Titan units.
