Rapid delivery of wood chips for a biomass boiler at Langley Academy in Slough is provided by these load-bearing doors from Bilco.

With access to the fuel store for a new biomass boiler at Langley Academy in Slough being in a roadway used by the occasional heavy vehicle, Bilco was called in to develop a solution. The company provided two JD-ALH20 floor doors, which were supplied and fitted by Matte Fabrications, to enable easy delivery of wood chips by tipper lorry.

The doors open upwards to provide an opening of 3 by 1.5 m. They are made of aluminium and have compression spring operators for ease of use. They provide safe access to the fuel store when required and are kept securely closed at all other times. They have a slip-resistant covering.

The plant room housing the biomass boiler has a glazed wall so students can see the heating and ventilation plant. A smart meter displays the energy and carbon savings achieved by the academy by its numerous environmental initiatives. Students have access to this data throughout the year.
