Leading architectural practice chooses water-source heat pumps
The Grand Union Canal is the energy source for two heat pumps providing trench heating for Associated Architects in the Mailbox Building in Birmingham. Two 26 kW Aquatop T26 heat pumps from MHS Boilers have been installed, along with a 400 l buffer vessel.
The heating system was specified by Arup, Birmingham, and it was installed by CA Stothers. Martin Atkins, contracts director with CA Stothers, says of the heat pumps, ‘Their compact size suited the restricted plant space available, and they were easy to install within the spatial constraints made available to us.’
These heat pumps can achieve particularly high temperatures for space-heating systems.
Sound emissions are below 35 dB(A) right beside the equipment. This low sound level is due to the compressor being 2-way mounted and oscillating freely. The heat-pump housing is also well sound-proofed to minimise sound transmission through the air.
