Ridi brings new light to college refurbishment

Combining performance and aesthetics in the refurbishment of James Watt College in Greenock is the use of Ridi Vision III suspended direct/indirect panel luminaires.

The new lighting scheme installed as part of the significant refurbishment of James Watt College in Greenock makes extensive use of well designed and affordable lighting products from Ridi Lighting. Vision III award-winning suspended direct/indirect panel luminaires feature alongside many other RIDI products in a lighting scheme that balances natural and artificial light in the beauty and treatment areas.

The college was built in the 1970s, and its comprehensive regeneration has transformed the ground-floor concourse, refectory, health and leisure facilities, vocational training suites and assembly hall into a bright and airy working environment.

To overcome the lack of light through the small existing windows, the architect designed a glass extension to run the full length of the concourse. The challenge for consultancy Hawthorne Boyle was to balance the levels of natural light with effective artificial light.

Vision III luminaires have a micro-prism panel with a relaxing low-brightness output. Design appeal is provided by these pendant-mounted luminaires having a brim that is only 13 mm deep and which seen in profile gives the perception of thin, floating rafts. The micro-prism panel has 89% light transmission and an extremely efficient 72% light-output ratio.
