Council offices choose Oventrop valves

Oventrop valves are used throughout this new office building of South Gloucestershire Council, which has gained a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating

Oventrop valves have helped South Gloucestershire Council gain a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating for its new 3-storey office in Yate. Valves from Oventrop range from isolation for DHW, heating and chilled water, through to low- and medium-flow commissioning sets for fan-coil units to AV6 TRV/Combi 4 lockshield combinations for radiators.

The balancing of systems was facilitated with strategically placed Oventrop double-regulating valves, with fan-coil units having flushing bypass valves. Other components include strainers, check valves, air vents and drain cocks.

The main services plant is at ground floor and roof levels. A biomass boiler is supported by condensing gas-fired boilers. Mechanical ventilation and cooling is provided by zoned air-handling units with variable-sped drives and thermal wheels to recover energy. Cooling for the main offices is provided by a Turbocor chiller. The IT server rooms have a dedicated cooling system served by two air-cooled chillers with free-cooling circuits.

Open-plan offices have perimeter trench heating, and radiators are used in stairways and other common areas. Mechanical ventilation and cooling is provided to open-plan areas by an all-air upflow system. Smaller offices and meeting rooms have 4-pipe fan-coil units.

Solar-thermal arrays generate DHW for the restaurant and shower block.

Arup Bristol developed the detailed design. CMB Cardiff was the M&E contractor.
