Nibe heat pumps meet heating challenge in the Peak District

Heat pumps with a view — these two Nibe air-source heat pumps have been installed to replace an oil-fired boiler for a large barn conversion that was increasingly expensive to run as oil prices soared.

Faced with an increase in the price of heating oil from 42 p to 72 p a litre over just eight weeks, the occupant of a converted barn near Holmfirth in the Peak District looked for another way to provide heat for his radiator system and hot water for a bathroom and three en-suites.

He called in Warma­­way of Dewsbury, a specialist in renewable energy and a register VIP installer of Nibe heat pumps. He suggested an air-source heat pump to reduce fuel costs and be comparatively cheap to install.

As an MCS-registered in­staller, Warmaway could access Government-funded grants.

The installation consists of two Nibe F2015 heating pumps in the yard near the back door of the converted barn. They are linked to an accumulator tank with a buffer vessel to increase hot-water capacity.

The oil-fired boiler was retained as a backup, but not used during the exceptionally cold winter.
