Shorts launches biomass supply/install package

Shorts, biomass, renewable energy
The runaway winner in any contest for lowest running costs — biomass boilers.

Immediately available from Shorts Environmental, which specialises in the design, supply and fitting of low-carbon building-services products, is a new biomass package. According to Mike Wheeler, national sales manager with Shorts, a biomass system is the runaway winner in any contest for lowest running costs. He is convinced that end users, architects and specifiers will be looking beyond the initial installation costs to the quite substantial operating gains achieved in lifetime savings.

He says, ‘Biomass is certainly not a fit-and-forget option as it needs good planning at design stage, but it is carbon neutral. In terms of lowest lifetime running costs for the end user, it is — in my opinion— absolutely unbeatable compared to traditional condensing gas boilers. In fact, over an operating life of say 20 years, it can potentially give a net cash benefit of over £500 000 for the customer when the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is taken into account.’

The economics is such that a capital cost of around £250 000 will be paid back in about eight years compared with a gas-fired boiler. After a full 20 years, the net positive cash benefit would be over £500 000.
