Lifeboat centre benefits from Fanwall technology

Colman Moducel, air handling unit

Colman Moducel air-handling units with Fanwall technology have been installed in the Inshore Lifeboat Centre of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The centre builds and maintains inflatable and rigid inflatable lifeboats, including 60% of RNLI’s own fleet and vessels for the Netherlands lifeboat service. Two identical LKP units have been installed side by side to supply 19.5 m3/s using an array of four fans in each unit.

Limited space required a modular approach, with the cooing units assembled on site and having a small footprint.

The Fanwall approach offered a more flexible and modular approach than traditional AHU design. Multiple fans provide redundancy, lower noise levels, greater energy efficiency and lower operating costs. The units were supplied in three sections.

Although the centre is inland, its exposed location required coastal specifications, which included powder-coated fans and epoxy-coated Fanwall enclosures.

80 people work at the centre, including boat builders, fitters and solutionists — providing support to RNLI lifeboat stations and lifeguard units for all aspects of inflatable and rigid-inflatable supply and maintenance.
