Samsung launches two air-conditioning systems

Samsung, air conditioning

Samsung has launched two ranges of air-conditioning systems into the UK market, both based on inverter-controlled digital scroll compressors using R410A that can modulate down to 5% of full load. They are the Mini DVM for top-end residential buildings and light commercial applications and the DVM-S VRF system for larger commercial applications such as hotels.

The DVM Mini is a 2-pipe heat-pump system comprising three outdoor units with capacities of 4, 5 and 6 hp. A system can have up to nine indoor units. One noteworthy unit is an all-plastic ceiling cassette that weighs only 9 kg. The integrated controller has a built-in web server so that it can be accessed and controlled remotely.

For larger commercial applications, the DVM-S range is offered as a 2-pipe heat-pump system or a 3-pipe heat-recovery system.

There is a choice of eight outdoor units with capacities from 8 to 22 hp. Up to four outdoor units can be linked to give a total capacity of 88 hp. Up to 16 indoor units can be connected to one outdoor unit.

Among headline performance figures are a COP for heating of 4.94 and EER for cooling of 4.49. For reliability, the heat sink for the inverter control unit is cooled using the refrigerant. Maximum pipe length is 200 m, with a 110 m height difference between indoor and outdoor units.

Another feature is automatic commissioning and management, enabling the commissioning time for a DVM-S system to be considerably shortened from 180 minutes to 50 minutes. Test results are automatically stored and reported.

Dave McSherry, general manager for air conditioning for the UK and Ireland, explains that the availability of the DVM-S range gives Samsung a strong position in the hotel market, for the company can also offer door locks, CCTV, room phones, and television sets. One project, a 200-bedroom hotel near Gatwick Airport, is in the installation stage.

Samsung offers comprehensive support for consultants and installers with a comprehensive range of system-design and product-selection software — including apps for mobile devices.

These systems are available through a network of specialist distributors and installer partners. A 3-year warranty is given for installations by a partner company.
