Variable-speed drives are designed for HVAC systems
IMO’s Jaguar VXH range of variable-speed drives is specifically designed for HVAC applications, particularly fans and pumps. The range can control motors from 750 W up to 710 kW, with just five frame sizes covering up to 90 kW. These drives can be used for standalone applications or integrated with a building-management system using a wide range of protocols. There is a wide range of analogue and digital input options.,
A self-funding scheme based on energy cost savings is offered by IMO to help overcome the problem of capital cost. The scheme was introduced in 2012 and is described by UK sales director Steve Hills as having been an ‘absolute storm of success’; it has been used to finance projects in hospitals, schools, colleges and factories. Supporting the scheme is IMO’s 5-year warranty.
Features that enable Jaguar VXH drives to be used as a standalone solution include a built-in PLC, real-time clock and four PID controllers — three of which can be used to control ancillary equipment.
Communication options for integrating into a BMS installation include BACnet, MS/TP, Modbus RTU and Metasys N2 as standard. Other protocols such as LonWorks and Ethernet are available as plug-in option cards.
Operational features include detecting if a fan is clogged and reversing its rotation to eject dust before continuing normal operation. A fire mode will ignore protection functions and continue to operate the fan or pump until failure; operating in this mode for testing does not invalidate the warranty.
For reliability and ease of installation, VXH drives are available with IP21 or IP55 protection.
