Wood is a good shot for golf club heating
Faced with the high cost of running its oil-fired boilers and an £80 000 cost to install a gas main, Canons Brook Golf Club near Harlow has opted for a biomass installation. Ivor Marshall, chairman of the club, explains, ‘The costs to prepare and install a gas system made no financial sense, so we turned our attention to renewable sources.’
Just Energy Solutions installed two Windhager BioWin Excel boilers with a total output of 120 kW. The installation was designed to be in keeping with the listed buildings and allow easy access for deliveries of wood pellets. These boilers have a large integrated ash box that requires emptying only once per heating season.
The current rate of Feed-In tariff of 8.6 p/kWh will generate an income of £314 000 over 20 years after installation costs have been repaid. Fuel bills have been reduced by £6500 a year.
