Healthcare company achieves healthy savings with pump replacement

Grundfos Pumps, pressure booster, pressure boosting

A healthcare company in Ireland has reduced the cost of boosting its water pressure by over 60% following the replacement of two existing pumps with a booster set from Grundfos Pumps. The new pump solution can deliver 120 m3/h at 6.5 bar.

Energy consumption was measured for a month. The results showed that a demand of 240 m3/h was required only very occasionally, so running pumps continuously to meet this requirement was hugely wasteful of energy.

It was estimated that the energy bill could be reduced from €40 000 a year to €17 000. Actual operating experience is showing nearer to €25 000 a year saving.

The new booster set comprises four vertical multi-stage centrifugal pumps.

Grundfos observes that this project shows the importance of reassessing before pumps are replaced, because the resulting savings could achieve a very short payback period.
