The tradition of the family running the business of York-based building-services engineers JH Shouksmith & Sons has entered the seventh generation with the appointments of brothers David and Edward Shouksmith as managing director and commercial director, respectively. Both are sons of company chairman Richard Shouksmith.

David Shouksmith will replace John Miller, who has been managing director since 2002 and is soon to retire following 49 years’ service.

Edward Shouksmith is a qualified estimator. He started his career with Morfitts, a former trading division of Shouksmith. He is rejoining the company following time working with other organisations in the building-services industry. He will be mentored by John Miller for the first six months and initially be responsible for the procurement of work for the company.

David Shouksmith, the new managing director, said, ‘As the next generation, I am thrilled to be appointed managing director and to be leading a team of very talented and committed people. We have had a difficult few years in the construction industry, but we have reshaped our business to adapt to the sector’s changing needs, and we are now in a very strong position to move forward.’

Current work includes a medical centre in Chester, student accommodation in Swansea and Leeds, multiple housing schemes in South Yorkshire and decent-homes refurbishment work in Doncaster. The company also has a specialist maintenance and refrigeration division based in Leeds.
